Socialization Skills Groups for Young Children, starting up again on January 23. In growing up, children face many challenges, including making friends and finding a comfortable place in social settings such as school, group sports and other activities, and sibling and family relationships. If children have difficulty developing this part of their lives satisfactorily, they may encounter difficulties in school, in learning, in family life, and in developing self-esteem. Our Socialization Skills/Play Activity Group provides an opportunity for children to have a positive experience with other children over a period of time (groups run for 10 sessions at a time.) Socialization/Play Groups emphasize working as a group. Children are encouraged to play together and create a safe, fun environment where each child is able to express how he or she feels. Our group leaders are all licensed or license-eligible, and their role in these groups is to structure an environment where the children feel comfortable expressing themselves. Once the group dynamic is established, the group leaders are able to point out the conflicts that arise in the group and facilitate resolutions which benefit everyone.
